Photograph caption dated February 3, 1939 reads, "Gary Cooper, clad in French Foreign Legionnaire uniform he wears in 'Beau Geste,' is pictured welcoming Dr. John S. Nollen, president of Grinnell College, Cooper's alma mater, and Mrs. Nollen, to a film set on the Paramount ranch. Dr. Nollen recalled that Cooper, now one of the screen's highest paid stars, couldn't get into the Dramatic Club while a student at Grinnell."
