Description
In response to the spread of organized anti-Semitism in the United States during the 1930s, leaders of Los Angeles' Jewish community formed a special defense organization known as the Los Angeles Jewish Community Committee. The committee later changed its name to the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles, Community Relations Committee. The collection documents the committee's efforts to combat prejudice and educate the public through cooperation with both Jewish and non-Jewish groups, from its formation in 1933 through the early 1990s. This is yet another example of antisemitic propaganda focused on the movie industry. It is a flyer urging the reader to boycott theaters showing movies featuring "Jews or Jew lovers" such as Norma Shearer, Al Jolson, Claudette Colbert, Ruby Keeler, Eddie Cantor, Margaret Sullivan, Sylvia Sydney and Ricardo Cortez. It also makes chilling statements such as "This is only the Beginning to an End", "We have the Jews on the Run!", and "CCC Camps would make good Concentration Camps for the Jews!" Readers are encouraged to join an organization for the purpose of "eliminating the enemy -- the JEW from all Industry!" 12 x 9 in.
