Album is bound in textured black material. The title, "Under the Southern Cross," is embossed in gold lettering in the center of the front cover. The number "56" is affixed to the top of spine with glue. Images are primarily commercial souvenir photographs and postcards probably purchased during the London's stay in the Gilbert Islands. A few panoramic landscapes and other views are possibly taken by Jack London. Very light wear on surface and edges. There is a small nick in the material on the back cover. Only pages 1-55 contain photographs, rest of pages are blank. Pages were interleaved with onion skin by the album manufacturer.
