Description
Kean writes a letter to the Drury Lane Committee to decline the role of Joseph Surface in the play The School for Scandal. Kean, whose strength was drama, rejected the role because it was comedic. The Committee, which included Lord Byron, requested that he play the part because Richard Brinsley Sheridan, the author of the play, had recently died, and the Committee desired to revive his plays as a memorial. Letter contains the watermark of "Thomas & Pine 1811."
