Description
Engraved map, 60 x 45, by N. Guerard, published, Paris, 1700, by G. L'Isle. Hereafter known as Delisle type No. 1. Numerous dotted lines show routes of different voyagers: Cortés, 1534; Gaetano, 1542; Mendaña, Drake, and Noort. The P. de Drak is shown in a little less than 38°. The map was re-issued by Pierre Mortier, 59 x 48, in about 1705; again by Peter Schenck, 58 x 44.5, in 1708; and again by T.C. Lotter, 58 x 45.3, about 1780,k with some of the names Latinized and the C. de Fortun, C. Arboledo, C. des Neiges, and C. de S. Martin omitted. On the 1705 (?) map he forgot to put the name Cedros on the island.
