Cartes de visite portrait of Sarah Locke Smith.
Handwritten on verso of photograph: "May 21, 1816 [year struck through] 1886 [year circled], Sarah A.J. Locke." Imprinted on verso of photograph: "Chandler & Co., 367 First Street, San Jose, Cal." Sarah Anne Jane Locke taught for two years in Humboldt county right after graduating from San Jose Normal School. She married William Thomas Smith in 1882 and stopped teaching; they had six children.
Microtek Scanmaker 1000XL, 600 dpi TIFF image in 8-bit Grayscale. Auto Level image processing applied and compressed into JPEG format using Photoshop CS3.
