Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated September 11, 1963 partially reads, "Firemen today mopped up three hillside fires in the Valley area which broke out in 100-degree heat and tinder-dry brush in the Santa Monica Mountains Tuesday...The most destructive of the three fires broke out first--at 1:42 p.m. in the Laurel Canyon Blvd., area. It blackened 60 acres of brush. The second exploded three miles east at Beverly Glen Blvd. and Deervale Dr. in Sherman Oaks at 2:49 p.m., seconds after firemen had halted the advance of the Laurel Canyon Blvd. fire. The third started another three miles east in the 15000 block of Meadowgate Rd. in Encino...One fireman, Earl Girrard, 32, was slightly hurt when dodging chemicals from one of the two borate bomber used in aerial assault of the flames. Attempting to duck out of the way of the chemical, Girrard stumbled and fell, fire officials said. He was not hospitalized."; See images #00119010 through #00119011 for all photos in this series.
