Photograph of six Franciscan monks looking on as five others play a game of croquet at Mission Santa Barbara, ca.1904. They all wear habits. Hoops and several balls are arrayed on the dirt playing field. The six are preparing vegetables in their laps, sitting on chairs in some thick ground cover vegetation. A long picket fence runs behind the group toward the mission visible in the background behind some trees at left. Mountains rise in the distance.
