Opening day of the MTA Orange Line at the North Hollywood Metro Red Line Park and Ride, located at 5350 Lankershim Blvd. This photo shows several people waiting in line to board the new Orange Line bus, also known as the Metro Liner. From the standpoint of the photographer, the line of people seems to be very long; in the background, across the street, a Metro Rapid (Red Line) is parked behind a Metro Liner (Orange Line) bus. MTA identifies all of its Metro Rail lines by assigning each line a different color. When the Orange Line first opened, Metro Transit Authority expected approximately between 5,000 to 7,000 riders to use this line in its first year of operation, and expected that number to increase between 21,000 to 25,000 riders by the year 2020. Between the months of November 2005 to March 2006, the ridership average was 16,766 boardings per weekday. In May 2006, the average reached 21,828 boardings per weekday, surpassing the original expectation. Photo dated: October 29, 2005.
