Description
Detailed, close-up view of batik design after being dyed and processed in indigo. This design will be used for the bottom section of a skirt traditionally made in the Xiangkhouang province in Laos, among the Green HMong and HMong Leng peoples. The zig-zag motifs create mountains separated by rivers. Handwritten inscriptions on mat board read, "Making a skirt #9" (above photograph), "1984 / Lewis" (below photograph). Date derived from inscription on mat board recto. Notes on verso read: "Making skirt #9 [handwritten pencil, upper left verso]; Photo #33 Batik design before [handwritten red ink, upper left verso]; HMong: Making A Skirt #9, Lewis Judy, *HMO.3510.00* Summer 2006 [printed label, upper middle verso]" Original title from SEACRC: HMong: Making A Skirt #9
