Description
The entrance to Grant Stadium at Grant Union High School is shown here in 1939. The venue was built the same year by the Works Progress Administration. Its design was intended to mirror that of Stanford University's Stanford Stadium, complete with thousands of flowers ringing the playing field. The project's cost totaled $88,000, with $69,000 coming from the federal government and $19,000 coming from the school district. The first game to be played at the stadium was between Grant and McClatchy.
