Description
Image shows group portrait in arched doorway of the auditorium at Malaga Cove School, located at 385 Via Almar in Malaga Cove, with the second annual Colonial Ball, hosted by the Palos Verdes Woman's Club. Visible are sixteen men and women, dressed in eighteenth-century costumes, identified (left to right) as: 1. Irmadelle Rous; 2. Ivan Ihm; 3. Mrs. Ivan Ihm; 4.& 5. [unidentified]; 6. Robert Paull; 7. Emilie Paull; 8. Helen Cook (daughter of John Frederick Cook, first chairman of Palos Verdes Library Board, and later (1930) Mrs. Charles Wright); 9. & 10. [unidentified]; 11. Genevieve Kendall (music teacher, Palos Verdes School); 12. [unidentified]; 13. George Gibbs (1861-1840); 14. Florence Gibbs (1876-1944); 15. Ellis Yarnell; and 16. Mrs. Ellis Yarnell. Approximately 140 guests attended the ball in the auditorium, which was decorated with candlelight and cut tree branches. Malaga Cove School, designed by the architectural film of Allison & Allison, opened on April 5, 1926. (See Palos Verdes Bulletin, March 1928, p. 3, for a description and other photos of the evening.)
