Photograph caption dated November 22, 1930 reads, "Mendel Lieberman of Los Angeles high school is pictured with the trophies he won by placing first in The Evening Herald's eighth annual extemporaneous oratorical contest, an individual cup and The Evening Herald's perpetual trophy. Lieberman's victory is the third for Los Angeles high in the contests and gives the school permanent possession of the large trophy."
