Description
Photograph of a view of the corner Main Street and First Street, looking north from the west side of First Street, January 1, 1926. The entire visible section of Main Street is occupied by a large two-story building with a flat roof and filled with various shops. There are awnings on the first story of many of these buildings, and the street in front of the shops is lined with early-model automobiles. Streetcar cables cross the street overhead, and streetcar tracks carve up the pavement below. Legible signs include, from left to right, "Chicago Clearing House", "United Cigars", "No Pain Extractions 50 [cents]", "Dentist", "Teeth you can eat with make you look natural guaranteed. 107 W. 1st St.", "Public Bargain House", "Army & Navy Goods", "Dr. J. Evans", "Specialista", "Coney Island Sideshow", and "Signs".
