Exterior view of Bella Vista Church of the Brethren, located at 383 S. Margaret Ave. The L-shaped church is painted white with a black roof, and has several tall arched windows along the right side. Two marquees are visible in the garden; a red marquee in the forefront lists the name and address of the church, and a white marquee sitting farther back lists the days and times of services. And a large sign or banner hanging under a sealed arch window reads "Prayer & Bible Study".; Organized in 1708, the Church of the Brethren is a Christian denomination that originates from the Schwarzenau Brethren. The first American church was established in 1723; these churches became commonly known as German Baptist Brethren. Historically, the church has taken a strong stance for non-resistance or pacifism and holds the New Testament as its only creed. As of June 2007, the Church of the Brethren had 127,526 members, 1,010 congregations, and 39 fellowships. Photo dated: February 2004.
