Description
Small file organizer branded "Grissim, L...Eclipse Mill and Mining..." (label is partially missing). Contains assorted receipts and correspondence with name W. T. Grissim, but also some addressed to Mrs. S. F. Leib. According to "First Directory of Nevada Territory"* by J. Wells Kelly and Henry De Groot (1862), the Eclipse Mill was operated by Grissim, De Land & Co. proprietors near Gold Hill, Nevada Territory. "Building forty by seventy feet; engine twenty-four horse power; fifteen stamps, crushing twenty tons of rock daily, taken from owners' claims. Smith & Dewey process in use." Included are a) Letter to Mrs. Leib about a piano order from Sherman, Clay & Co. (1895) b) Receipt to M. Leib for 36 gallon of milk from E. S. Smith, San Jose (1883) c) List of what appear to be mines and mining companies, with "Wm. T. Grissim, Present" written on left-hand side (undated) d) Receipt to Mr. or Mrs. Leib from the San Jose Furniture Manufacturing Co. (1896)
