Description
This February 1943 photograph, as taken from the stage, shows the auditorium and projection area of the Colonial Theater at 3522 Stockton Boulevard. The 850-seat, 10-employee venue opened in June 1940 and was fitted with an air cooling system and included a sound-proof crying room for babies on the mezzanine level. The interior was built to enhance acoustics while also taking advantage of the best sound equipment of the day. After years of inactivity, the single screen theater was reopened in 2000 as a music hall. The photograph comes from the Matias Bombal Collection.
