Description
Drawing of Charles Ducommun's hardware store. Originally from France, he was the founder of Ducommun Metals and Supply Company. Besides being a businessman, he was also a watchmaker, bookseller, jeweler, paint and glass dealer, stationer, and tobacconist. The drawing shows the facade of his one-story, porticoed store with a large, round clock on a tall pole next to a hitching post. A child pulls a wagon as a pedestrian lounges in front. A gas street light faces the store on the other side of the street. Drawing dated: 1868.
