Politisk engagement. Den enlige missionær med bowlerhatten deltager i en pompøs afskedsfest for den japanske øverstkommanderende i Fenghwangchen efter den russisk-japanske krig i 1905. Billedet er taget uden for en Røde-Kors hospital, hvor japanerne ydede kineserne (civilister) gratis lægehjælp. Efter 1) Kristiansen følger 2) en japansk Officer 3) den forrige Amtmand 4) den chinesiske Oberst, som flere Gange besøgte vore Missionærer 5) den nuværende Amtmand 6) den Japaner (Civil-Administrator) for hvis Skyld Festen holdes. 7)den øverste Mandarin i Manchu-Yanen (hans Dragt er lyseblaa Silke, men ser hvid ud paa Fotografiet. Mandarinernes Silek-Dragter er pragtfulde, men se sorte ud på Billedet. Til højre med bowlerhat Missionær Kristensen. Om nr. 6 siger Kristiansen: "Jeg har ofte ved Festerne hørt hans Taler, nogle knurrende Lyde, som man aldrig kunde finde på var Udtryk for Begejstring, hvis man ikke havde set Øjnene lyne og Lemmerne dirre ud i Benklædernes yderste Folder". Description
Political commitment. The lone missionary with bowler hat participating in a grandiose farewell party for the Japanese commander in Fenghwangchen after the Russo-Japanese War in 1905. The photo was taken outside a Red Cross hospital where the Japanese gave Chinese (civilians) free medical care. After 1) Kristiansen follows 2) a Japanese Officer 3) the previous governor 4) the chinesiske Colonel, who several times visited our Missionaries 5) the current Prefect 6) the Japanese (Civil Administrator) for whose sake festival held. 7) the upper Mandarin in the Manchu-Yanen (his suit is pale blue silk, but appears white in the photograph. Mandarin The Silek-costumes are gorgeous, but look black in the picture. To the right of the bowler hat Missionary Kristensen. About No. 6 Kristiansen says: "I have often been listening to his speeches at parties, some growling sounds that you could never find was an expression of enthusiasm, if you had not seen eyes zip and limbs quiver out in trousers outer folds".
