Dan White (1946-1985) was a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors who assassinated San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and fellow Supervisor, Harvey Milk on November 27, 1978 at City Hall. White was convicted of manslaughter rather than first-degree murder and was given a seven-year sentence, of which he served five. White was paroled in 1984 and fearing he would be killed in retaliation for his crimes, he was secretly transported to Los Angeles where he served a year's parole. Upon completion of his parole, White chose to move back to San Francisco. On October 21, 1985, Dan White committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. He is buried at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, California. Photograph caption dated January 14, 1984 reads, "A participant at today's Dan White Out-of-Los Angeles rally lets his feelings about Dan White show." This protest was held outside of Los Angeles City Hall.
