PHOTO: LOS ANGELES CO.: LOS ANGELES: BUILDINGS: TWENTIETH CENTURY-FOX STUDIO
Two views of construction of steel-riveted backdrop at Century Fox Studio (later Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation). Designer and construction supervisor John S. Ferguson, Sr., Century City (Los Angeles, Calif.); between 1947 and 1949.
Descriptive note, "The backdrop had a rail-mounted ladder built parallel to the slope of the backdrop with levels at each floor so that the painters could reach any portion of the backdrop when they wished. The ladder traveled on the north edge of the south lot (the Studio was divided in two portions by Olympic Boulevard), and the back side of the backdrop could be seen by people in cars along Olympic. The structure was removed sometime in the late 1950's or early 1960's when Fox Studio sold all of the north lot and most of the south lot for development as "Century City."
