"M.B. worked tirelessly to rid the county dairy herds of TB and to increase milk production. When he began in 1920 there were 24,797 dairy cows producing 3.389 million pounds of butter fat. By 1925, there were 25,069 cows producing 4.89 million pounds of butterfat and over 250 purebred sires had been placed. Both the County Farm Bureau and UC Extension stressed not 'more' cows but 'better' cows. Twenty years later, Marin cows produced 7.5 million pounds of butterfat (1945 Crop Report)." Editor, M.B. Boissevain: Marin's First Farm Advisor; Historical Photographs of Marin's Agrarian Roots: 1920-1950 "My (1925) chart shows but a 1.1% increase in the number of cows but a 44.3% increase in butterfat production that created $800,000 of new money in the county!" M.B. Boissevain "M.B. organized a Marvelous Marin tour to the Point Reyes Cooperative Creameryin 1929. Visitors on the tour remarked that the 'reduction in spread between the consumer and the product' was most impressive as 1.5 million pounds of butter was supplied locally." Editor, M.B.
