Description
The American Can Company, shown in 1945 at its Thirty-Third and C street location, was one of California and the nation’s primary producers of tin cans. By the time this photograph was taken, the plant was producing 375 cans a minute and 22,500 an hour, accounting for an annual use of 50,000 tons of steel. By the start of the 1950s, American – with its various locations throughout the United States – was the nation’s largest producer of tin cans.
