Description
"Gnadenthal. Blick auf die Station." ("Genadendal. View of the station."). Descending view of the mission station with a church in the distance. In the background woods and big mountain.
The picture was probably either taken by Brother Lemmerz or Brother Will before 1927. -- was a missionary of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine from 1889-1921. He was born in Enon, South Africa, and was a locksmith and teacher before he married Helene Keil in Niesky, Germany, and became a missionary in 1889. He served in Elim as a shopkeeper and distributor of medicine from 1889-1892, as a miller and distributor of medicine from 1892-1898. From thereon he became abbot and preacher in Elim until 1912 with an interruption in 1905/06 when he traveled to Europe. In 1912 he went to Moravian Hill in Capetown. From 1913-1921 he lived in Elim as a British subject after which he returned to Germany. He died in Niesky. -- Samuel Will (1867-1957) was a missionary of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine. Born in Königsfeld, Germany, he married Bertha Müller in Herrnhut in 1893. The same year they went to Elim, South Africa, where he served as a missionary for several years. In 1903 he became trade inspector and a member of the provincial conference there.
