Description
Caption reads: "W.N. Monroe, Monrovia's founder, came to Southern California in 1884 and began to acquire land from E.J. (Lucky) Baldwin. It became known as Monroe's Ranch and early day travelers to the east went "via Monroe's Ranch" and later when the town was platted it was named Monrovia in honor of Mr. Monroe. Shortly afterward it became known as the"Gem City of the Foothills" and has been so known since then."
