The Roy brothers arrived in California from Vermont in 1861 and settled on 420 acres in the San Geronimo valley in 1877. Their family home stood by the duck pond of today’s golf course. The house was purchased by a film company in 1981, moved to Nicasio, and featured in the movie Shoot the Moon. The Open Space District purchase the Preserve’s initial 306 acres in 1978 for $420,000.
