Looking north toward Santa Monica, crowds of pedestrians, shoppers, rollerbladers and bicyclists can be seen strolling along Ocean Front Walk on a chilly, but sunny February day. The building in the foreground was rebuilt in 1993, in the same "Venetian Renaissance" style as Abbot Kinney. Kinney acquired title of Venice's undeveloped property in January 1904 and began to build his vision of "Venice of America". All buildings and exteriors in the business district would be built with the enclosed colonnade walkways of Venice, Italy's Plaza San Marco. The bike path was built in the 1980's and the grass added later, in the late 1990's. The building with the red awning is the Sidewalk Caf.? Photograph dated February 27, 2003.
