1989-1135. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], vol. A, leaf 2. A photograph of an oval portrait within a rectangular frame; a bust view with the sitter looking to the left; sitter has small goatee and a mustache that sticks out in horizontal branches; sitter is bald with hair at the sides and long sideburns; sitter is formally dressed in black suit coat & white dress shirt; collar of coat comes across the throat and reveals the white shirt at the left collar and the triangular section in front. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Born Feb. 23, 1803 at Kandern, Baden, Germany. Died June 1880. at Washington D.C."
