Description
Photograph of the fire at the El Rey Hotel on February 21, 1941 viewed from the east on J St. The El Rey Hotel opened under the Lee Brothers in 1933 at 519 J St and contained a theater. The building first operated as a hotel in 1917. An arsonist started the fire and the flames spread to the second floor. It cost over $50,000 to repair the theater. The Hotel Ramona is seen on the left. Taken in 1941 by John Marvich.
