Title
05.- Tamil Nadu, Indien, 1988-89.

Description
Tamil Nadu, India 1988-89. "With 80 students in the class" - A Danish teacher in the Arcot School Project is telling: It all began more than 100 years ago with the Danish Mission Society (DMS). Shortly after arriving, many schools were built to the Dalits in the poor villages, a total of about 80. However, later the ALC as an independent church could not afford to maintain the schools. When DMS facilitated contacts with Danida and DanChurchAid, they became involved and were funding the school project with a major donation.- Immidiately, such a village school, made up by mud and covered with a thatched roof looks quite idyllic. At first, I found it hard to accept it to be replaced by a project school made of concrete and a tiled roof. But the Indian told me why, as the thatched roof was difficult to maintain, and the only class room was very hot and too small to accomodate the five grades attending this school. At the sign is written "Danish Mission School", because long ago, DMS has started the school.
