Title supplied by cataloger. At least 20 workers were trapped in an aqueduct tunnel near Sylmar, Calif., after a natural gas explosion. The workers were constructing part of a five-mile tunnel for the Department of Water and Power. Photograph caption reads: "Aerial view of gaping 33-foot in diamer surge shaft that drops 140 feet into the ground and onto the 5 1/2 mile long tunnel. This shaft is at middle of the tunnel and was the main scene of operations Saturday with rescuers and investigators being raised and lowered into the tunnel". Photograph dated: June 27,1971.
