Description
Photograph of two panoramic drawings depicting Union Square and Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco, 1885. The top panorama depicts the grass and trees at Union Square, around which several gothic churches are pictured and labeled with other buildings. From left to right they are: Calvary Church on Powell Street, the First Congregational Church, the Trinity Church on Post Street, the Imporium, The Eintracht Hopkins Residence (pictured on the background hill) and the Synagogue on Butter Street. A flagpole extends from the center of the square. The lower panorama depicts Van Ness Avenue as it makes its way into the distance. The avenue is a wide, paved road. Horse-drawn carriages navigate it and it is flanked to either side by two-story Victorian-style houses. The First Presbyterian Church is visible in the distance on the right side.
