Owned by Margaret Manley since 1974, Discoteca La Princesa is located next door to her husband's barbershop. Her store specializes in music, yarn, and religious statuary and caters to Venice's growing Latino community. According to recent figures from the Venice Chamber of Commerce, Hispanics make up nearly 40% of Venice's population. Some of the religious statuary seen in the photo include: (top shelf) The Last Supper; Three Wise Men, also called the Magi; a Nativity scene; a large statue of the Sacred Heart, which is a religious devotion to Jesus' physical heart and represents divine love for humanity; the Virgen de Guadalupe, also called Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mexico's most popular religious and cultural image; (bottom shelf) Divino Nino Jesus, also known as Divine Infant Jesus; and Santo Nino de Atocha, a Roman Catholic depiction of the Infant Jesus, also very popular in the Hispanic cultures of Spain, Mexico and southwestern United States. Photograph dated December 4, 2002.
