Description
Judith Freeman discusses her novel, “The Long Embrace.” She begins by explaining that she read a lot of Raymond Chandler’s work in the 1980s and was fascinated by his life. She talks about Chandler’s move to Los Angeles and how he meets his wife Sissy who is 18 years older than he is. She discusses his intense alcoholism and how his womanizing drove him crazy. Freeman talks about how she is a self-taught writer and now teaches at the University of Southern California. Martinson asks Freeman to read a passage from the book about Chandler’s relationship with his wife. She ends the interview by talking about the negative way Chandler portrays women in his works.
