Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the Sutherland Hotel in Pleasanton, 1937. The long, two-story clapboard-veneered hotel is pictured at center behind four tall trees which have had their upper limbs trimmed. To the left, the trunk of another tree in the extreme foreground partially obscures an automobile. A porthole window can be seen on the lower level of the hotel to the left, shaded by the balcony of the second floor. The street in front is paved. The hotel was built by James Sutherland, a famous trainer and driver of such horses as Dan Patch and Love Dillon. In 1937 the hotel was being operated by his grandson.
