Description
On the front of the photograph is handwritten in ink: Apr - 1927. "Discovery" in Thames River. "Melanope" - Mill Valley. 5 Feb 28. Taken from SS "Selma City" Sept 1927. It is hard to read, but on the back of the photograph appears to be written in pencil: "Kiserrey Thames River Sept 1927". This photograph was found in a plastic cover attached separately with a typed excerpt that reads: "That was a popular thing in the early days in Mill Valley. There were really no street numbers, so you named your house. My father named our house after his ship, the one in which he carried my mother for three yeras, the Melanope. The name Melanope was one of several old names that were in a sequence: Melanope, Antiope, and so on". At the top of the excerpt is handwritten in ink: "Lance Robinson - Oral History".
