Description
The photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on October 6, 1965 states: "From a hovering helicopter this is a view of the Sacramento approach to the Pioneer Memorial Bridge which crosses the Sacramento River at W and X Streets. The scene is looking west with the bridge indicated by the arrow. The approach will cover five blocks along W and X Streets. The W-X Streets Freeway will hook up with the north-south 29th-30th Streets Freeway in the Interstate 80 route which will carry traffic from the Sierra through Sacramento to San Francisco Bay points. The bridge is expected to be opened the middle of next year."
