Description
This 1938 photograph shows a dapperly-clad gentleman standing in front of the Sacramento Liquor Company, located at 1101 J Street. Just three years earlier, in 1935, the store and three other establishments faced the prospect of losing licensure because of, one, not closing, as the law stated, at 2 a.m., and two, selling alcohol to minors. The business was able to avoid prosecution by the California Board of Equalization and Chief Enforcement Agent for Sacramento, Elwood Squires.
