Gregory "Pappy" Boyington (December 4, 1912 - January 11, 1988) was a United States Marine Corps officer and flying ace during World War II. For his heroic actions, he was awarded both the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. Boyington died of cancer and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Photograph caption dated April 13, 1959 reads, "Preparing to take off tomorrow, Pappy Boyington shows route he will take on flying-author 'party all over United States,' visiting 30 cities, in connection with his best-selling 'Baa Baa Black Sheep.'"
