Description
Photograph of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Building, on Broadway between First Street and Second Street, ca.1901-1911. The cornerstone was laid on 28 May 1903. The 7-story brick and stone building has an American flag flying from the roof and a fire escape down the right front of the structure. There are commercial establishments on the ground floor. A man stands on the sidewalk looking into a store front. A bicycle is parked along the curb. Street car rails are visible in the street.
Legible signs include: "Chamber of Commerce", "Maier & Zobeleim, Pilsner Beer", "Allan Hunter, Eagle Stables", "Inner Americana, Temple Auditorium, Wednesday night, May 24", "124, Consolidated Bank", "126, Wait a week for new Huntington Beach t[...], lots $150 and [...], make your reservations, A[...], Blicker & Shoemaker, general real estate [...]ers", "Spring Street [...] store about June 20", "The Herald, How far will the squirrel travel", "The Waldo[...], bottled in bond g[...]".
