Photograph showing General Herman Haupt, W.W. Wright, and an unidentified soldier at the scene of the destruction of Confederate caissons and horses, near Fredericksburg, Virginia. Title on mount: Scene after battle Fredericksburg May 3 1863. Handwritten in upper left corner: No. 6.
The afternoon after the 6th Corps had captured Marye's Heights (after 2nd bettle of Fredericksburg), Russell crossed the river with General Haupt to document the battlefield. -- see Haupt Reminiscences, 194-95. Taken a few hours after the action.
