Description
The Sacramento Children's Home was founded in 1867 at Seventh and C Streets as the Sacramento Protestant Orphan Asylum. It later moved to 13th and C, then between 18th and 19th on L, and finally to 2750 Sutterville Road, where it remains today. In 1914, the name changed to Sacramento Orphanage and Children's Asylum in 1914, then to its current name in 1943. Most of the children were from Sacramento and Yolo Counties, but the home did take children from elsewhere, including 46 children for emergency care after the San Francsico earthquake. By the time this booklet was published, the children led more typical lives and went to public schools, rather than at the home as in its early years.
