Description
Photograph of a Yokut Indian woman basket maker, Tule River Reservation near Porterville, California, ca.1900. She sits in a half-crouch on a half-filled sack on the ground outside. Basket making supplies sit in a large round basket in front of her. A dead small furry rodent (a marmot?) lays on the ground at her left from which she appears to be drawing the viscera or intestine for use in basket making. Part of a wooden table is visible behind her.
