At the time the prize was awarded, Susan Mintz was a sophomore at Bennington College, Vermont.
Photograph caption dated August 30, 1964 reads, "Miss Susan Mintz, blue-eyed brunette graduate of Burbank High School is the proud winner of an essay contest on school dropout problem [sic]. Susan spent one-quarter of an hour on the essay which earned her $1, 725."
