Description
Text: This bridge could be considered to have belonged to the road network that existed to provide transport from Anuradhapura city to the suburbs even from the beginning of the Anuradhapura period. This bridge had been designed for transport across the Malvatu Oya River and over this was the highway to the North of the country. In designing this bridge, the high flood level of the Malvatu Oya had been taken into account with cross beams placed over rock columns and smoothly textured beams placed longitudinally to span the cross beams. -- Director General of Archeology
