Photograph shows the Information Section at Portland, Oregon Assembly Center with a sign that reads "Interpreters and General Information" in English and "公衆相談所" in Japanese. The Information Section is staffed by incarcerees helping other incarcerees. The Portland Assembly Center was formerly known as the North Portland International Livestock Exposition Center. Caption on album page: "An important phase of the administrative facilities at each assembly center was the information unit, staffed by evacuees under Caucasian direction, where information of all types was available, as well as interpreters if needed. Photo shows the information section at Portland (Oregon) Assembly Center." SIGNAL CORPS PHOTO 9CA-42-2819-PSF. The War Relocation Authority (WRA), together with the Wartime Civil Control Administration (WCCA), the Civil Affairs Division (CAD) and the Office of the Commanding General (OFG) of the Western Defense Command (WDC) operated together to segregate and house some 110,000 men women and children from 1942 to 1945. The collection contains documents and photographs relating to the establishment and administrative workings of the (WDC), the (WRA) and the (WCCA) for the year 1942.
