Description
This photograph of the California Governor's Mansion was taken on July 24, 1943, from the northeast corner of 16th and H streets. When the structure was built by Albert Gallatin as a private residence in 1877, the area was semi-rural. The ornate Victorian mansion was the home of California governors for more than six decades.
