Description
View of Santa Monica beach with crowds of people relaxing on the sand practically sitting elbow to elbow in proximity to each other. Most, if not all, sit under umbrellas for shade, while others (not visible) enjoyed swimming or wading in the cool ocean water. As is apparent in this photograph, it was still the custom to take a large umbrella to the beach. The pier may be seen in the foreground with several posted signs that read: "Notice. Overhead casting prohibited"; "Fishing. More than 2 poles or lines prohibited"; "Warning. Throwing or playing ball with baseball or any hard ball is prohibited within 2 blocks of pier"; "ezy2tan sold here"; "Comfort station. 2 blks north then 1 blk west".
