Photograph article dated August 17, 1962 reads, "Two hundred Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power employes [sic] engaged in hazardous construction and maintenance work in the Valley have been honored with a million man-hour safety award. Presentation was made Thursday at the East Valley district headquarters in North Hollywood. Dist. Superintendent H. 'Jack' Wirz, Van Nuys, accepted the plaque from DWP safety engineer Jackson B. Stevens. His employes [sic] have worked from December 1959 to June of this year - a total of one million man-hours - without a disabling injury. Other department officials attending included Nathan O. Freedman, Northridge, vice president of the Water and Power Commission; Sam Nelson, department general manager; and Max K. Socha, chief engineer of water works." Photograph caption reads, "East Valley Water-Power employes [sic] receive safety award - Jackson Stevens, right, gives plaque to Dist. Supt. H. Wirz."
