Long Beach Junior High School band in background. No. 5: Lt. (jg) Douglas Jenks, left, gets kiss from wife Charlotte while Ch Glen Iverson gets same from wife while son Michael looks on. The Jenks are from Palo Alto, the Iversons, Long Beach. Both men are in crew of DD O'Brien. No. 6-7: Buddies and neighbors get greetings from wives. Left, Bm3 Vernon Grove, 38 Linden Avenue, Long Beach, wife Betty and Baby Mary Ann, 4 1/2, whom he was seeing for the first time
Bm3 Donald K. Stutler, 46 Linden Avenue, Long Beach with wife Ann. Both men joined Navy together, have been buddies ever since. They are on DD O'Brien. 8: Look what I got! Bm3 Vernon Grove, who was among first men ashore from DD O'Brien, holds up baby Mary Ann, 4 1/2 mhts., whom he saw for first time yesterday, to shipmates. Wife Betty looks on happily. 9-10: Capt. John D. Bulkeley, WW II torpedo boat hero, famed for having taken Gen. MacArthur and President Quezon out of Phils. in PT boat and later at Torpedo Boat commander in Southwest Pacific shown in bridge chair. No. 11: First thing Capt. John D. Bulkeley did after ship O'Brien was secured was to telephone his wife Alice in Washington. He used bridge phone connected to shore line. No. 12: Back from the Korea war, left to right: DD's O'Brien
